LED curing

LED curing technology offers fantastic opportunities within wood finishing. It provides the same high level finish realised with UV curing, but with a number of benefits. With the Becker Acroma™ LED cure wood coating solutions you can now take advantage of this technology for the first time.

Benefits on offer include:

  • Reduced energy consumption
  • Significantly lower reject rates of pine and other resinous wood species
  • Reduced maintenance costs
  • Less down time due to lamp failure and warm up cycles
  • Improved working environment
  • Reduced environmental impact
  • Shorter production lines

Who can benefit from LED technology?
If you currently use UV curing solutions or you plan to start using them, then you can implement LED technology into your wood finishing process. At Sherwin-Williams we create tailored LED coating solutions that provide the optimal finish for virtually every segment including home and office furnishing, kitchen and bathroom fittings, and interior joinery, as well as for any wood finishing line combination.

LED lamps operate in a much narrower spectrum than UV lamps

Most standard UV lamps have a UV spectrum that stretches from 200 to over 400nm (UV-C, -B, -A and –V). Large amounts of energy is also emitted in the visible range and as heat in the IR range. Furthermore, harmful ozone is generated in the lower range of the UV spectrum (UV-C), while the energy produced in the IR range causes severe heating of the substrate.

LEDs, on the other hand, have an extremely narrow UV spectrum of 365 or 395nm (+-20nm) and only a small amount of energy is emitted in the visible and IR ranges. By harnessing these narrow peaks of UV energy, the amount of energy used for curing is considerably reduced.
